SANDRA MITCHELL
Sandra has been a certified teacher of the Royal Conservatory of Music program, teaching both piano and theory since 1984. She is an early childhood music education specialist teaching piano, flute and ukulele.
Along with RCM formal training, Sandra attended Douglas College taking courses towards her Education Degree and also taking many Early Childhood Education courses. While searching for a music program for her own children, Sandra discovered Music For Young Children and fell in love with the program. Seeing the learning potential and the fun the children had lead her to become a Certified MYC teacher in 1996, attending yearly professional development seminars and courses to date. She has since had great success incorporating these techniques into her private lessons. Sandra also utilizes various music print series, such as Faber and Faber, as structural options for private lessons. She is a member of the Alberta Piano Teacher's Association (APTA).
Group and private lessons range from age 2 to Adult, and Sandra has extensive experience working with students of all abilities and diverse needs including children in the autism spectrum, tailoring classes to each student specifically. She has prepared countless students for their RCM practical as well as theory exams, and also for festivals and recitals. She is one of the founding members of the Westside Music Festival’s Celebrating Canadian Composers.
"My teaching goal is to inspire and nurture your child’s love of music."
